Hello, my name is Eddie...I own a 6 year old Bengal cat named Bear born in Medellin Colombia to a breeder who is also a Veterinarian with a clinic called Mirrenga ...Bear was playful, friendly normal cat stuff...On September 10, 2019 he had an appointment to get his teeth cleaned and update his rabbi vaccination.
After completion of cleaning and providing the update rabbi vaccine which took 3 hours to complete I picked up bear. At home and after presumably the anesthesia worn off i noticed Bear was not his normal self...not eating or drinking water for a period of 8 hours.
After a sleepless night watching and looking for change in Bear, I took him back to the vet. I found out Bear had a reaction to the rabbi vaccination; he was put on intervenes as he was not eating or drinking water...and with high fever. Questions began to build in my mind..WTF happen, what went wrong, with nothing definitive from the Doctor she decided to keep him overnight.
I went home with so much anxiety, worry, fearful of what could happen I began to research the rabbi vaccine for cats…I understand the need but I doubt any cat owner really knew the potential and affect it has on the cats…I am not going to go into all the risky. But one stood out the most to me…once the cat responds positively to the reaction…what were the changes to the cat inherently…. the sadness I felt after reading this it was overwhelming and sad…
Short ending…. Bear went in for a routine cleaning of the teeth and a rabbi shot which was due a happy go lucky cat and came out a lethargic, unenergetic, does not want to play anymore, sits and sleeps and hardly talks (Bengals are one of the most vocal cat breeds)…..I am beside myself as I write this with anger and resentment as to why didn’t the vet know and explain the potential reaction and adverse effects…..They took Bear away…
I am know looking at ways to see if I can to something to bring Bear back from the living dead….do your homework regarding vets...
