Our Plan

After spending over five weeks in Armenia Colombia back in August/Sept this year. I just didn't want to leave. Rented a nice 1br 1ba full kitchen furnished air bnb for $450 with two balcony's with a million dollar view. Plus utilities -wifi -cable -land line phone all included. The building was 5yrs old about 1mile from the center of the city. Buses and Taxi's were at the entrance of my bldg. just ask security to call for a taxi and for two bucks was able to go anywhere.
We figure that we now spend about $3000. per month here in Phoenix, AZ we would be able to easily get by on $1500 a month in Armenia and live a better quality of life. 1) I can't wait to get rid of both our cars that just suck the $$$$ out of our pockets. We will not be driving anymore! Taxi or buses for us. 2)Utilities OMG I will not miss my electric bill that averages $250-$300 a month3) Medical coverage as they say in Brooklyn Forget about it. What ever we get in Colombia will be better than what we have.4) Food here is a tricky one because the prices of groceries here in Phoenix I feel is pretty good because of Mexico and California being close by. We don't feel that there will be any savings for us. Because we don't really eat out much. I'm a chef and the quality of food is almost always better at home. For example during my 5 week visit to Armenia this year I ate out only 3 times and one of those times was pre arranged to meet a friend. The other two were supposed to be some of the best available restaurants available. It was good but I wasn't impressed. They were fairly expensive for Colombia. So upon my return we have been working towards selling what we can at yard sales etc. Donating and throwing out the trash to try and get down to the bare essentials needed for our move. We plan on renting another air bnb for 3 or maybe 6 months to give us time to fully get the lay of the land but Armenia or Manizales will shortly be our home. Thanks to all of you who have posted your own experiences and advice that proved to be very helpful to us and I'm sure to many others.
Have a great day!
