Why chose Colombia instead of Panama to retire in

Hi all,

My wife and I are both US citizens, and we both have native family living in both panama and colombia. At first we were considering retiring in a couple of years in panama since we have family members that are doctors and dentists there. However, the clincher that made us choose colombia is the cost of living. It's like substantially less than panama, especially in housing. It seems in general with panama using the US dollar, that even with changes, the colombian peso makes it cheaper. I've found that living costs deep in the interior of panama, santiago, david, boquete, are cheaper than in panama city itself though. Plus for colombia is that we're in pretty good health and the trade-off for health care costs in colombia is not too high.

What makes colombia more interesting though, is the much larger size of the country with many different climates and geography, such differences in culture such as cali vs bogota vs baranquilla, the people being so friendly, and of course, the exchange rate.
