Where to move?

My fiance and I are wanting to move to Colombia. We would rent initially with a view to buying after about a year. We love the sea but think that the Caribbean coast would probably be too hot for us day in, day out. We prefer late 70's/early 80's, but could cope with more possibly if it was sporadic/breezy.

We want to live on the outskirts (within half an hour or so) of a decent sized town, We have investigated Medellin, Cali, Santa Marta and Cartagena so far Online, Youtube etc). We like to eat out, wander around and explore, we love nature, dancing, driving, flea markets, people watching over coffee, eating out and the coast.

We aren't rich by any stretch of the imagination and would probably have to work for the first few years at least (online is a possibility). Clean air is important to us, as is relative safety. We need a place with a vibe and a spirit all year round.

We are UK passport holders currently living in France. We hate it and can't wait to leave! We have four dogs so would want a small finca or detached property with a small amount of land so we can grow some food ourselves. We have tons of house sitting/caretaking experience and lots of practical skills like renovation, tree work, landscaping etc. We are trained straw bale/hemp house builders and would want to be as off grid as possible.

So my questions are:

Are there any small towns on/near the Pacific coast which may be suitable (and reasonably safe), OR any other suggestions (preferably near lakes/water) inland?

Does anyone have any
recommendations for rental agents that deal with houses specifically?

Would majordomo work be a possibility for us do you think with our skills?

Any other advice for us?
