US$/COP exchange rates until 2031

An interesting article in El Colombiano this morning (28/06/2020) which diffuses the latest estimations by the Colombian Ministero de Hacienda of the US$/COP exchange rate over the medium term until 2031.

The estimates given for the period show:
2020 3,960
2021 3,747
2022 3,811
2023 3,878
2024 3,950
2025 4,025
2026 4,101
2027 4,179
2028 4,258
2029 4,339
2030 4,422
2031 4,506

The article does not provide much detail, for instance are these end of the year figures, or annual averages, and I doubt even the Ministero would offer good odds on their accuracy. But all the same, as the figures come from the government they surely provide some indication of what their policy provides for?

So, in summary, the peso remains below $/COP 4,000 until 2025 upon which returns to its habitual decline against the main industrial currencies.

Conclusion – Reconsider the advisability of buying property in Colombia if it is your intention to eventually move on elsewhere, and perhaps get your sale in before 2025 if you intend to sell?
