San Andres

Just back from 5 day stay. 4yrs ago stayed "in town" ghl hotel and the experience was just ok.
This time, spent the vacation in St Luis section ...south east of island and had a much nicer experience..
Latam was little over half full from Bogota..uneventful flight of almost 2 hours. One interesting thing...managed to scam the window seat from my wife and was following this real long road...about 5 airplane minutes. All of a sudden, road ended...no turns no nothing. Soon after...another couple of minutes, road started up again. Thouught about the Darian Gap and when we landed, donfirmed that was the flight path.
Seemed like an endless ride from airport to St Luis, Sound Bay ..the water was supurb the first couple of days, nice waves and clean. Last days found lots of seaweed...but hey, thats the ocean. Couple of nice restaurants there and the usual 4 or 5 tiendas. People real nice.
Very little damage (hurricane Iota) to southeast side of island but found some damage to the downtoun San Andres area. Also alot of damage coming down the west side...real sad...lost homes (at least the roofs ) and the beach areas were quite eroded.
They are begging for visitors now...we had the whole beach at our rental pretty much to ourselves though there were quite alot of tourist types in town.
Prices are still surprising...restaurants pricey but you can but Castillo de Diabo for 27.000 and Frontera for 18.000...whuch we did to take back.
Saw a Decameron (St Luis) in final stages of being built...going to be one of the nicest....
All told, a very nice trip...if and when we go again...we will hit the town..only to buy the wine...
