I am the ultimate dinosaur and I never thought I might be saying the following……but here goes.

Up to now I have always scorned the idea of investing in Bitcoin, but, cmon, anybody can change their mind. So here I am, thinking about it, but knowing virtually nothing about how to take the first step(s). Can anybody give me a heads up?

OK, I am not going to sell my roof, just a few dollars (or equivalent), enough to say “I did it” and put it away like some old “penny shares” I bought 40 years ago and still sit in my archives “just in case”.

Apparently I must open an account with an exchange and here are a few that have been mentioned ( Gemini, BitPanda, CEX.IO, Kraken, Binance – whoever). Anybody got any recommendations? Can people of any nationality register, or are these exchanges specific to USA citizens? And if I get that far, is there any minimum that must be invested? Are there different currency denominations like in Euros, or Canadian dollars?

All comments will be welcome, even those who tell me the idea is pure stupidity.

And finally, before somebody brings the matter up; YES, I realize this is a forum focused on Colombia and what is the connection between Colombia and Bitcain? I admit the connection is tenuous, but one of the factors that affect expatriation in Colombia is the foreign currency risk. In this context, I always try to balance out the risks and advantages of living in a nation with the peso for its currency, and putting some of my savings into a US$, Euro Bitcoin could fit my strategy.
