The Haves and the Have Nots

In my travels throughout Colombia it's evident they're those doing well and those who are not. When last in Colombia (April 2020), I noticed that major cities like Medellin and Bogota have considerable poverty but much wealth too! Maybe my perception is skewed? But in Bogota, the outskirts of the city is packed with gated high-end communities and numerous luxury homes. Inside of Bogota, you have very posh and large expensive sectors where the wealthy and well to do Colombians live. The point I'm trying to make is that there's widespread poverty throughout the country but also widespread wealth! I saw numerous construction projects of high-end homes and buildings that will be bought by Colombians who rarely use mortgages. Yes, Colombia is a third world country, but where are all these wealthy Colombians coming from? Adding to this puzzle, the present riots of thousands of people angry and frustrated over their economic standard of living. Something doesn't add up?! Thoughts?
