Non National Online Purchases

It has been mentioned before that products purchased online from non Colombian sources, Amazon US for example that have a value of less than 200 dollars are exempt from tax. Over that amount the purchaser will be charged IVA. For purchases above that amount from some companies such as Amazon US the tax is estimated and charged iat time of purchase with the understanding that any over payment will be reimbursed. It is important to know that purchases that surpass the price point of two thousand dollars US or weigh more than 211 lbs. are subject to additional documentation. Those purchases must pass through a process of "normalizacion de importation" or official importation. To get your delivery you will need to supply paperwork that includes your RUT (Registro Único Tributario) number. which you will have if you declare renta. Important to be aware of if you're thinking of buying an expensive laptop, camera or machine for pealing cacao from afar.
