Drivers License Renewal

Renewal requirements are far more rigorous in Colombia than any US state I can think of. For most states only a vision test and road sign recognition and in some cases a test of your knowledge of traffic regulations. I just renewed mine and it took about three hours including the required medical exam. That consisted of entering five different rooms. In the first your fingerprints were compared with those you registered with RUNT. You then returned to the waiting room and waited. Next you are called to a room with a hearing specialist and tested in a hearing booth, Then wait some more. Next you are called to a room with a kind of video game where your coordination is tested. Next you are called to a room where your vision is tested pretty much like testing at most US license offices. Then finally to another room for a medical exam where your blood pressure is taken, height and weight recorded and the doctor asks many questions about your sleep habits, if you use sleeping pills, alcohol consumption, if you suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and more. Finally you are ready to go to the window where the license is issued. Pretty unbeleivable if you are accustomed to renewal in the states!
