No Encanto

Maybe you know there is a new animated Disney movie called Encanto which is supposedly set in Colombia. I'll try to attach a photo of the house which is the center of the story. The house is supposedly designed in the style of houses like you might see in Salento, which we visited in 2020.

I hadn't been to the theater in years so I got sticker shock when I checked out ticket prices. For the 2 of us here in the USA it was going to cost us over $30 in 2D, not 3D. My old eyes can't do 3D unless I get cataract surgery someday. So I checked and it started on Disney+ on December 24, which I can get for $9 for a month.

We did that and we saw it yesterday. It is a beautiful movie, but we were both disappointed. My wife didn't like that it is a semi-musical with singing and dancing. But even worse she said the voice actors weren't Colombian and did not have Colombian accents.

Finally, we both felt that the star of the movie, a young Colombian girl, was not very pretty by Colombian standards. I think they are trying to send a message that girls with short, curly hair are pretty, too. Sorry, I wanted to see more of her sister, Isabela. Anyway, no somos encantados con Encanto. (We didn't like it much)
