Visa application via Colombian child.

Thanks to whoever posted about the pending visa changes. I was able to successfully submit my application for a visa by virtue of the fact that my daughter has Colombian nationality. From the post it seems that they visa may be discontinued this year. Not a real big thing overall; but, it does seem to have it's advantages.

Unlike a visa obtained via a spouse if we were to divorce this visa is unaffected. Not that I see divorce in my future. Once issued I can be out of the country for up to two years and still maintain it's validity. Then return for one day and reset the two year time clock. Once issued this visa has no expiry as long as not out of country for two years or more.

There are no financial requirements for this visa. No need to disclose income.

Time will tell; but, some are telling me I can get my cedula at the local consulate, while others are saying it HAS to be in Colombia. I believe the latter personally.

All that said I have not received the visa as of yet, only successfully made the online application. I am expecting one minor glitch.

Navigating the online application process was somewhat torturous; but, between my Colombian wife and myself we were able to puzzle it out after many attempts. If you have all you documentation ready and know how to navigate the system it is about a twenty minute process.

The Colombia Consulate indicates an answer is provided in 5-6 days, The status link indicates 15 days. It will be a week tomorrow.
