How do I live in Colombia?

Hi all,

First post. U.S. Citizen. I've lived abroad for about three years total in Spain, China, and Honduras. My sister lived for a few years in Colombia and my father has retired there. I'm very interested in living there ASAP. I've looked into the visa rules a bit, and it seems like I can just make trips out of the country every 90 days and stay in Colombia 180 days out of the year. As I understand it, the ticker restarts on Jan. 1st, so I could basically live in Colombia a year off, a year on.

I've looked into the work visa, and I would need to get a Colombia based job and the visa would only last 3 years. I'm not sure what happens after 3 years. I would also need to keep the same job from what I understand.

I work as a Software Developer and could get a job in Colombia, probably WFH. I'm just wondering what's the best way to get long term immigration status. If getting a long-term visa does not sound like a reasonable option, has anyone successfully lived in South America long term without getting a visa? Could I move back and forth yearly between Colombia and another country that has similar rules?
