Problem renewing COLOMBIAN passports

I wonder if any other forum member is experiencing the problem I have at the moment. True, it will not concern us expats residing in Colombia, but it could be a problem for our wives if they are Colombian and seeking to renew their Colombian passports. Quite simply, it would appear impossible to renew Colombian passports for what reasons I do not know.

My Colombian wife needs to renew her passport before February 2023 when we are scheduled to relocate back to Europe. We did not think this could be a problem because the process seems quite simple and rapid according to the Ministerio de Relaciones Exterior website – just make/pay for an appointment and bring the appropriate documentation. No problem – Well, just one simple one, it seems impossible to make/pay for an appointment. Incidentally, the making/payment of an appointment can only be done online, not by going to their offices.

My wife tried for a week, but the online link for making appointments was NEVER open even if you tried every 5 minutes. So we decided to use an agency and pay them to do it; again, no luck, they have been trying for multiple clients for a couple of months. In short, there are a lot of Colombians who are currently losing their travel reservations.

So, has anyone else had this problem – have any comments/ideas? I am still in a sense of disbelief – could a government service be this inept? Perhaps, I am unduly blaming the Ministerio, in reality the government contracts this function to the various Gobernaciones.
