what made us choose to be expats?

many of the questions refer to questions about pros and cons...

I joined this forum just a few months ago. I still am on tourist visa but I am going to apply as resident soon. I spent some month here before and travelled an extensive part of colombia before I decided to stay. I visited Cuba, Puert Rico, Panama and Ecuador extensive before.

don´t we notice advantages of living here anymore? I am Austrian, female, 60 years of age. I did not forget all the threads and exposed risks I faced before, even in Europe: migration, increasing criminality, riots, amoks and even terrorism. Here, in Colombia, i never felt as save as before. Yes, I am a gringa, anyway i feel integrated since I do not feel as and I do not show it. I simply got adjusted to the language and the way of life.

I am living allone, travelling allone by motorscyle, had a very warm welcome wherever I went. I gave my property in Austria to my kids, am retired after working hard and I live here as a queen. I am not going to be dependant on my children and I am not going to spend my future live in an old people`s home until the end of my days.

one should better not moan on disadvantages here and thereabouts - let us simply enjoy what we enjoy!
