Expert recommendations please

What do you think, should I be worried?

I must admit the following may be just another provocative rumour, but if it is true……..!!

From the tittle tattle I pick up, Petro´s government have such serious budgetary problems (Many new Ministry’s still need to be created) they are looking at every opportunity to bring in some extra money and their latest idea has me worried as it potentially hits me hard - a tax on bicycles.

Of course, the notion has solid foundations – if 4-wheel vehicles and motor bikes have to pay taxes for the privilege of using roads – why not bicycles? Just like many good films, if they were so appreciated when they appeared, it is often financially opportune to issue sequels. On this basis, we could perhaps envisage future associated taxes on use of pedestrian footways, roller skates, children’s prams…. the list could be never ending.

Yes, I am worried, I use a bike extensively, at least 45 minutes every day and purposely put it to maximum use by watching tv at the same time. Yes, it is an exercise bike, but unless the potential new law is very precisely formulated, I would not put it past the authorities to catch all those fish that swim too close to the bait.

I know a lot of forum members favour, and encourage fellow expats to lie low, or, at least, fly under the radar. Normally, I am not tempted by such recommendations, but in this case, I would appreciate proposals from amongst our in-house experts, as to how I can best camouflage my beloved bike.
