Sunshine and Customs

Let me chime in on on a couple of subjects under discussion and of course my perspective is different. First of all one of my favorite aspects of the country is the daylight we have--basically 5 am to 6pm every single day of the year. It is an early culture and we here on the Caribbean get up before or at daylight and use the whole day. Go ahead and calculate how many hours of daylight in the typical US State per year. I very clearly remember those short winter days of hibernation! Our children run 3 shifts of school and believe me the children have lots of time for play! Also---I think the children here in school uniforms and such are just fine and it seems to me there is a level of respectfulness in children here that is great. Yes, I can imagine that the typical US student that runs the parents ragged going to football and soccer and baseball and every other thing that has nothing to do with family or neighbors or home may be uncomfortable. And yes they may even feel punished by actually being at home and spending time there--but to me that is THE reason to be here in Costa Rica. And I do agree that unfortunately because of outside influences that is slowly changing. Yes, I understand I am just an old fogy and the simpler and quiet life is appealing to me!
