Exploring Costa Rica for Possible Relocation

Hi -

I'm currently residing in Austin, TX. I have a mid term goal (5 years) to say goodbye to living in the states and moving somewhere Expat friendly. I'm not sure where just yet, however Costa Rica is where I plan to check out first.

I'm a mid 30's professional in cyber security and software development. I can work remote from anywhere that with regular flights back to the states. My wife and are are big into fitness (CrossFit, Spartan races, other functional fitness). I also to happen to be new (and loving) Jiu Jitsu.

I'm planning on coming out this December (2016) for a week to perhaps gain a tiny bit of insight into what Costa Rica has to offer in regards to relocation.

I've read a couple lists for the best places for expats to live, but the seem to be targeted at people who would like to enjoy their retirement. While I would probably find such areas nice, they may not have the amenities of a fitness culture, arts, night life, etc. that I would also like.

Trying to read between the lines, these seem like the areas I should check out:

San Jose
Alajuela
Jac0

I don't mind moving around a bit while I'm in the country. My plan is to reserve a few AirBnB sites.

Questions for the community:

* Given the provided details, what ares should I explore while in Costa Rica?

* Where am I going to train!!?! (Fitness and Jiu Jitsu)

* What are some good online resources that can help us out with discovering areas that will meet our requirements?

* Any other bits of wisdom you can share for someone in my situation.

Apologies for yet another post asking about the best expat areas ... I just haven't found too many details that quite answer my questions.

Thanks for reading!
