Potential move but not retired

Hello, My wife and I are in our early 40's. We are seriously considering moving to Costa Rica and would like some insight from people that have and do live there now.
Here is some back story. We are planning one of two moves. Its either a Sailboat to travel the world, or Costa Rica. Of course, we would be quitting our jobs and selling almost everything to fund this adventure until retirement. Either of these moves requires some sort of investment. We have the sailboat investment vs. time nailed down. We are not sure about Costa Rica vs. time. Meaning how much does it cost to live there permanently. We are looking for rough monthly budget numbers.
We have visited Costa Rica 3 times now and fell in love with the country. Each visit we try to see more and more of the country. Our heart really lies in the South Pacific region and particularly Uvita, as each trip back brings us there. We just returned from Costa Rica last month and we got to talk extensively with a retired couple that has lived there for 7 years to find out what life is like there. Our trip was a bit of a recon mission to find out more regarding real estate, working, and to talk with expats that currently live there. Yes, we got some of those questions answered but we came home with so many more. Nothing scared us away and we still love the idea of moving there. Our dilemma is this...
Which one is more sustainable until we can draw retirement???
We are simple, heck you must be to want to live on a sailboat. We do not want a large house but would want at least a 2bed/2bath in case we have family visit. One house we stayed in was only a year old and about 40’ x 30’ not large at all and it was perfect for us. If that helps with the size house, we would be looking for. We would also need a 4x4 vehicle as well. We are very budget minded so spending frivolously is not something we do.
Im looking into thoughts and ideas from those of you that have and are living there not collecting retirement. Of course, Im open to all comments.
