Criminal background record

Regarding the five-year criminal background record for me and my wife when we apply for a pensioner's Visa...

Is there a specific law enforcement agency in the United States that has to come from? And how recent does it have to be when we apply for our visas?

The background check is no problem my concern is doing it too soon and having it expire before I can actually use it. Obviously I don't want to have to go through that expense twice.

As always thank you so very much for your responses and participation in this query.

Have a great day,
PoppaJim

We lived in OR when we did our pensinado process and had the check from the OR state police. It worked, however Bety Lopez sent a notice that things were changing at inmigracion, I also know people who used FBI checks. Ours were $10. I read FBI were $50 and they used to have to be under 6 months of age, Everything must be appostilled and certified by the Guatemalan Consulate before you take them to Guate. In OR you can mail or take them to the Secretary of States office $10 per page ditto for the consulate same mail or drop off and same $10. We mailed them to San Francisco Consulate

Authentications by the Guatemalan consulate are no longer needed due to Guatemala signing onto the Hague Apostille Convention. Now the Secretary of State in the state where the document was issued has to certify (authenticate) the documents and signatures. The price per authentication varies by state.
