Are there any US citizens who have found a way to insure your home and property in Guatemala? I imagine it’s challenging as I have had 0 luck in my research. Thank you!

I know that BAC and G&T Banks offer insurance, health, ect. Am pretty sure I remember seeing ads for house insurance at BAC, this is in Antigua. There are also insurance companies with offices in the city that offer insurance.

We had our home (at the Lake) insured by one company who after one of the hurricanes refused to insure properties at the Lake (our property was not damaged, but that didn't seem to matter). Then we went with Seguros Universiales. We had a claim when a boulder came down the mountain and damaged my art studio. They paid promptly, Then when our yearly renewal came up, they refused to renew it. So we are now "self insuring." Perhaps one of the real estate people here can help you.

You're right it's not easy to find companies that offer home owner's insurance in Guatemala. But researching for you I found www.mapfre.com.gt and from what I can read they offer coverage on fire, earthquakes etc. Check it out or call them at 2375-5000 they're supposed operate in 47 countries. Apparently Granai doesn't offer that kind of coverage. Good luck.
