Help please - considering a hop across the pond

Hi there,

I am an Australian currently living in NY where I run and operate my own consultancy business. This year I will do around $450k in business; if I worked harder, I could easily earn more. I love New York, live with my boyfriend and beloved dog, and we're having a baby in 2 months.

I have been offered a managing director position in London for a private company. They are offering a base of 250 sterling, plus some sort of bonus scheme which would see me earn another 100k + a small amount of shares in the company which is worth about 300k (US) - vested in 3 years (+ of course relocation package, but this is yet to be determined)

I have said that I cant start work until May next year, and they are fine with that. They are happy to be flexible with the baby, and me bringing her to work/working from home etc, so that is a big benefit My partner will need to find a job, but he is a Director at a pharmaceutical company so i don't expect that to be too much trouble....though that said we have no idea how long that process will take.

I have spent a lot of time in London, enjoy it, and we would both like to be close to Europe. However, I have a number of questions:

1. How dog friendly is London - will we find accomodation ok that will allow us to have a dog....what areas do you recommend living that are good for dogs?

2. The company insists that 250sterling is a lot and would have us living similarly to earning US$450k. From my research, it seems that to live similarly you need to earn 450 sterling - is this correct, or is the company correct? ie. what are your personal experiences of this?

3. Is there a relocation company you can recommend who would provide independent advice on this.

4. Do you think this is a good move from a financial point of view or not?

Many thanks for your help and comments.
