What is it like to retire in Szentendre?
"Life for a retiree in Szentendre can be quite peaceful and culturally enriching. This charming town, located just north of Budapest, is known for its well-preserved old town, art galleries, and museums, offering a wealth of cultural attractions for retirees to explore. The town's picturesque setting along the Danube River also provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as walking, cycling, and boating. While Szentendre is not a major expat hub like Budapest, it does have a small but active expat community. Many of these expats are retirees from various European countries who have chosen to settle in Szentendre for its relaxed pace of life, beautiful surroundings, and rich cultural offerings. They often meet up for social events, language exchanges, and cultural activities, providing a supportive network for newcomers. As for nightlife, Szentendre is more quiet and laid-back compared to larger cities. However, it does have a decent selection of restaurants, cafes, and wine bars where retirees can enjoy a leisurely meal or drink. There are also occasional concerts, festivals, and other cultural events that liven up the town's nightlife. In terms of amenities, Szentendre has everything a retiree might need, including supermarkets, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities. The town is also well-connected to Budapest by train and bus, making it easy for retirees to access the capital's more extensive services and amenities whenever necessary. Overall, Szentendre offers a tranquil and culturally rich lifestyle for retirees, with the added benefit of being close to the vibrant city of Budapest," remarked one retiree in Szentendre.
