We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in St. Gallen, they wrote:
"St. Gallen, is known for its high cost of living, similar to many other Swiss cities. The cost of housing is quite high, with rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center typically being significantly more expensive than in other European cities. Utilities, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage, are also quite costly in St. Gallen. Internet and mobile phone services are also more expensive compared to other countries. When it comes to food, eating out at restaurants can be quite pricey, especially in the city center. Grocery shopping is also more expensive than in many other countries, with prices for basic items such as bread, milk, and eggs being higher than average. Transportation costs in St. Gallen can also add up, with public transportation tickets, taxi fares, and gasoline prices being quite high. Owning a car can also be costly due to high insurance and maintenance costs. Healthcare in Switzerland is known for its high quality, but it also comes with a high price tag. Mandatory health insurance premiums can be quite expensive, and out-of-pocket costs for medical services can also be high. Education, especially private education, can also be quite costly in St. Gallen. However, public education is generally of high quality and is funded by taxes. Despite the high cost of living, salaries in St. Gallen, as in the rest of Switzerland, are also generally high, which can help offset these costs. However, it's important to note that the cost of living can vary greatly depending on personal lifestyle and spending habits," explained one expat.
