What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Valle de Los Chillos?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Valle de Los Chillos about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Ecuador. The country has both public and private healthcare, with the latter often providing a higher standard of care. You may want to consider getting a private health insurance plan that covers maternity care. Secondly, find a good obstetrician who speaks your language or with whom you feel comfortable communicating. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or from your local embassy. Thirdly, prenatal care is essential. Regular check-ups will ensure that both you and your baby are healthy. These appointments are also a good opportunity to ask any questions you may have about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care. Fourthly, consider where you want to give birth. Some expats choose to return to their home country for the birth, while others prefer to stay in Ecuador. If you choose to give birth in Valle de Los Chillos, ensure that the hospital or clinic you choose is equipped to handle any potential complications. Fifthly, familiarize yourself with the local customs and practices around childbirth. In Ecuador, it's common for the mother to stay in the hospital for a few days after the birth, and for the baby to be swaddled tightly. Lastly, after the baby is born, you'll need to register the birth with both the local authorities and your home country's embassy. This will ensure that your child has dual citizenship and can access the benefits of both countries. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a very rewarding one," remarked another expat in Valle de Los Chillos , Ecuador.
