What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Bishan?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Bishan about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Singapore. The country has a high standard of healthcare and many hospitals have maternity units. Choose a hospital that suits your needs and budget. Public hospitals are cheaper but may not offer the same level of comfort and privacy as private hospitals. Ensure that you have adequate health insurance that covers maternity costs. Some insurance plans may not cover pregnancy-related expenses, so it's crucial to check your policy. Consider hiring a confinement nanny or maid to help you during the postnatal period. This is a common practice in Singapore and can be a great help in taking care of the baby and the mother. Enroll in prenatal classes. Many hospitals in Singapore offer these classes which can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. Register the birth of your baby within 14 days. If one parent is a Singaporean citizen or permanent resident, the child can be registered as a Singaporean citizen. Breastfeeding in public is legal and accepted in Singapore, but it's advisable to use a nursing cover for your own comfort and privacy. Lastly, join expat groups or parenting groups in Bishan or Singapore. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship during this exciting time in your life," wrote a member who made the move to Bishan, Singapore.
