What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Playa del Carmen. They wrote...
"One challenge that expats in Playa del Carmen often experience is the language barrier. With many locals speaking limited English, it can be difficult and daunting to navigate daily life without being able to effectively communicate. Another common challenge is adjusting to the slower pace of life, as taking things slow is a major part of Mexican culture. Additionally, the strong sense of family and community can be difficult to penetrate for expats, and making friends with locals may prove more difficult than in other places. Finally, Mexican bureaucracy and required paperwork can be a hassle for expats who are unfamiliar with the process," remarked another expat who made the move to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
