Japan has a universal healthcare system, which means that everyone, including foreigners, is required to be enrolled in a health insurance plan. This can either be the National Health Insurance provided by the government or an Employees' Health Insurance if you are working in Japan. The healthcare system in Japan is known for its high standards of care. Hospitals and clinics are well-equipped, and doctors and nurses are highly trained. Most healthcare providers in Japan offer a high level of service, although English-speaking staff may not always be available. Under the Japanese healthcare system, 70% of all your medical costs are covered, and you are required to pay the remaining 30%. This applies to most medical services, including consultations, medication, surgeries, and hospital stays. However, the cost can be significantly reduced if you have a low income. One thing to note is that you must present your health insurance card every time you visit a hospital or clinic. If you don't have your card with you, you may be required to pay the full cost of treatment upfront. In terms of pharmacy services, prescription medications are usually dispensed at the hospital or clinic where you receive treatment. Over-the-counter medications can be purchased at any pharmacy.
