What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Belize?
We asked retirees what they find the most challenging about retiring in Belize. They wrote...
"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Belize is the high cost of living relative to other Central American countries. Another challenging aspect is the language barrier, as English is the official language, but most Belizeans speak Spanish or an indigenous language. Additionally, the communication infrastructure in Belize is not as well developed as other nations, which can be difficult if one needs to access health care services or other services online. Finally, the lack of security in Belize can be a difficult hurdle for retirees who may not be used to living in a foreign country," remarked another expat in Belize.
"Same as living in your own country. Learning to adjust to living with each other 24/7. They say downsizing is good but as prices of properties are so good we went from owning a 3 bedroom in Scotland, to an 8 bedroom in Belize. It's nice to have that much space, our own space.," said a member in Belize City, Belize.
