If locals celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah where you are living now, how is it celebrated differently?

The birth of Christ is the main focus of most celebrations here. Most of the celebration in my pueblo takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is a very quiet day.

Do you mix your own traditions with those of your expat location? If so, describe.

I am afraid so. I see Christmas lights, ornaments, Santa Claus, etc. everywhere these days. Walmart has introduced commercialism everywhere.

What is your favorite thing about celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah in your overseas location?

The most interesting observance I have seen is "Christmas Around the World" in the churchyard on December 24. Many couples with newborns depict the nativity scene live with backgrounds from various countries. It is a very interesting evening.

Beside family and friends, what do you miss from home during the holidays?

Nothing.

How is New Year's typically celebrated in your expat location?

Many of my neighbors have street celebrations. Residents of a city block will fire up a bonfire on the corner with music, canned or live. There is a kettle of cinnamon tea spiked with whatever is proferred and fireworks at midnight.
