steps in temporary residency

I'm doing my own documentation with a friend as a guarantor. Will get an attorney at the end to do the legalizing of copies. I am wondering if anyone can confirm a few things for me re: the list of requirements (provided at Migracion:
1-does the full copy of the passport need to be "legalizada" by the Foreign ministry here, or just by an attorney?
2-Does the background check that needs to be legalized at the Foreign Ministry (once it has already been legalized in the consulate of Guate in the US) need to already have its legalized, translated copy attached before taking that step?
3-Does the passport authentication document you have to get from the US embassy here also need to be legalized?
It's a fascinating labyrinth--thanks to anyone who can provide some thread to the other side-don't want to meet the minotaur! . Don't need any comments about how I am crazy and should pay a lawyer to do it all. I've already considered that!
Thanks for any specific information that will help me with the order of the steps.
