What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Haiphong?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Haiphong about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Haiphong. The city has several hospitals and clinics, but not all of them may offer the same level of care or have English-speaking staff. Therefore, it's advisable to research and choose a hospital or clinic that suits your needs and comfort level. Secondly, consider hiring a local doula or midwife who can help navigate the healthcare system and provide support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can also assist with language barriers and cultural differences. Thirdly, ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Check the terms of your policy carefully to understand what is covered and what is not. Fourthly, it's crucial to understand the local customs and traditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. This can help you avoid any cultural misunderstandings and make your experience more comfortable. Fifthly, join local expat groups or online forums. They can provide valuable advice and support, as well as help you connect with other expat parents in Haiphong. Lastly, make sure your baby's paperwork is in order. This includes birth certificates and passports, which may require additional steps to obtain in Vietnam compared to your home country. It's advisable to consult with your embassy or consulate for guidance on this matter," wrote a member who made the move to Haiphong, Vietnam.
