In New Zealand, midwives are the lead maternity carers and they provide free services to residents. They can guide you through the entire process, from pregnancy to postnatal care. Thirdly, start planning early. This includes finding a suitable hospital or birthing centre, preparing for parental leave, and setting up a nursery. Napier has several good hospitals and birthing centres, so take the time to visit and choose one that suits your needs. Fourthly, connect with other expat parents or join a local parents group. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship. This can be particularly helpful if you're far from your home country and family. Fifthly, understand the parental leave policies in New Zealand. The country has generous parental leave provisions, but they may not apply to you as an expat.
