Where should I setup a bank account in Al-Ahsa?
We asked expats in Al-Ahsa what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Expats considering retirement in Al-Ahsa should be aware of several key factors. Firstly, it's important to understand that Saudi Arabia is a deeply conservative country with strict laws based on Islamic principles. This includes strict dress codes, especially for women, and restrictions on alcohol and pork, which are both illegal. Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in Al-Ahsa is relatively low compared to Western countries, but this can vary depending on lifestyle and personal spending habits. Healthcare in Saudi Arabia is of a high standard, with both public and private options available. However, it's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any potential medical costs. Language can be a barrier as Arabic is the official language of Saudi Arabia. While English is widely spoken in business and by younger generations, daily life and interactions can be challenging without some knowledge of Arabic. Saudi Arabia's climate is extremely hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the summer. This can be a significant adjustment for those used to more temperate climates. It's also important to note that Saudi Arabia has strict laws regarding residency and foreigners are required to have a sponsor to live in the country. This can be an employer, a spouse or a close relative who is a Saudi national. Lastly, while Saudi Arabia is making efforts to open up to tourism and foreign residents, it is still a relatively closed society. Expats may find it challenging to integrate into local communities and there are limited entertainment options compared to Western countries," remarked another expat in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.
