Advice on long term travel

Hello everyone! I am looking to get some factual advice for my travels to Panama. I am looking to come down for a year and I will be travelling with my dog.
I will be flying into Panama City from Canada and then travelling to my final destination of Bocas.
Does anyone know of transport from the city to Bocas that will allow a large dog?
It is looking like I will have to rent a truck and drive from the city to David and then have a friend come pick us up, but would be interested if there is other direct options to Bocas from Panama City. Note the plane or the bus won’t take my dog.

I am also curious if anyone has first hand knowledge with how the 180 day rule works?
I was told by one lady at immigration that if I stay 5 months and leave for a few days I can restart my 180 days, but now I’m getting conflicting answeres.
I’ve also heard that the leaving for 30 days is only required by land crossings. So does that mean if I fly out for a day or 2 I can come back in? Are they very strict on the 180 day rule? How do they track it, or would it just be when you go to leave after a year they see you stayed longer than you should have and tell you that you can’t come back kind of thing?

I am just not sure how leaving for 30 days with my dog is going to work, if I go to Costa Rica that’s a whole nother country I have the paperwork for her to do and finding travel that will take her as well as somewhere to stay.

Any help or advice anyone has would be much appreciated!
Thank you.
