Anywhere along the coast from Manabi province on south to the dryer Santa Elena province gets cooler during Austral winter -- June through Sep/Nov.
This is due more to the Humboldt current moving closer to sure and the winds across this current as well as more clouds blocking the equatorial sunshine.
Evenings after sun down the temp drops precipitously -- similar to the effect in the desert.
Even during our hot months -- Feb/March, the combination of the ocean breeze and the change after sunset can mitigate the heat.
Keep in mind this occurs right on the coast -- interior areas are much warmer, and Guayaquil can be uncomfortably warm and muggy.
By the way my Florida comparison comes from having lived in South Florida (metro-Dade and Broward) for over 25 years. And 3 major hurricanes. Good news, no hurricanes here1

Mike, this forum is full of good information.
However, many people use it to pitch their services, and it's a challenge to find out if those services are as advertised.
IMHO, if someone here advertises, and there are at least a half dozen other posters who attest to their professionalism, you're probably safe.
Otherwise, I would take the lone "OMG! They are the greatest!" posts to be those of a paid shill.
It's a challenge if you are new.
Since your wife is from EC, I assume that she has relatives who can help you through the immigration process with no strings attached, other than the familial ones.
Good luck to you and your family! It sounds like you are embarking on a wonderful adventure.

I feel like I walked into a mine field here.
Anyhow, my wife is an Ecuadorian citizen and from what I understand I can carry duel citizenship if we decide to move.
I'm 31 so this is not a retirement option for me so in my opinion Quito is the best option to find employment.
Thank you everyone for the feedback. This forum seems fun so I am happy to be a part of it.

I'm confused.
There is a new poster, alternately named Ecuadorretirement or Ecuadorromancetours (ICK, ICK. ICK.) who claims that the Mingas have "extensive government contacts" and can expedite residency applications.
But a few weeks ago, Patrick Minga stated that Nora's contacts are no longer.
Which is true?
Given that Patrick has been posting here longer, and Mr. "Take Old Men to Find Young Women" has literally posted nothing that isn't a pitch for his own services (or Patrick and Nora's alleged services), who do we believe?
Admins, could you please check this guy out?
I, for one, would very much appreciate it.

This really is getting ridiculous. Patrick Minga himself posted the information that his wife had absolutely no connections in the immigration department. Now, along comes Boatmax contradicting that. How smart to you have to be to figure out that someone is lying? Does it really matter who? I've tried to post this notion before, but of course, it never saw the light of day. When will you question why the moderators won't allow these posts to appear? Who are they protecting? Seems like the answer to that would be the Mingas and their new shill, the guy from Florida that claims to be their new partner.
Personally, I wouldn't go near them with a ten foot pole.

I have personally sat on their sofa with the Supervisor of Immigration, his wife and baby. I have personally been to Immigration with Nora, and everyone there knew her, even the Guards. Since just a short time ago, they have installed a new computer system, and the workers were not trained. They then moved everyone around, and have added more people. I do not know much about the Minga's - but there are a lot of horror stories about dealing with them on the forum I have come across.
For all I know they are great people, and I do not wish to slander them as I have never worked with them.
However, because of the bad reviews, I would suggest just like anything in life, you do your due diligence and find out if thier services are a fit for your needs.

Hi Mike ...welcome to Ecuador Forum experience...
Don't let the messages phase you...we self moderate and a lot of folks have experiences with a lot of different people...some good some not so good.
And everyone posts their feelings as well... just skip through what you don't want to read -- keep in mind that "your mileage may vary" and your experiences may be different too.
As for Quito -- beautiful city but very high altitude. That effects many folks negatively so stay open to try different spots. Also, don't assume anything about a location until you visit. Many folks assume the coast is hot and humid like Florida. It's not and in fact is coming into the cold season. Bring sweaters or be sure to bring money to buy some of the gorgeous alpaca knits available int he mountains.
Keep an open mind, bring plenty of patience and a good sense of humor -- and have a great trip.

This is Micheal, I am the American partner of Patrick and Nora Minga who are in Quito. Patrick is American and formerly military and he married Nora an Ecuadorian lady. They are both wonderful people and own and operate several businesses in Quito and are very well connected with the government there.
Patrick wrote the Guide attached and I have included some immigration info which we provide as one of our services.
Since Patrick and Nora are so connected with the government they have found ways to expedite the process by hand delivering documents and moving them to the top.
Patrick and Nora own and operate a wonderful Boutique Hotel in Quito 5 star ratings on TripAdvisor ( www.quitohotelbonanza.com ) and it can include all meals ( Nora wonderful cook ).
I am including Patrick and Nora's number it is an American number but rings in Ecuador Magic Jack.
