An Expat Talks about Retiring in Hanoi, Vietnam

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Hanoi

What have been the most challenging aspects of being retired abroad?

One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Hanoi is the language barrier. Although English is becoming more widely spoken, many locals still do not speak it, making it difficult to communicate with people in the community. Additionally, the cost of living in Hanoi can be quite high, especially for those on a fixed income. Furthermore, the city can be quite crowded and noisy, making it difficult to find a peaceful place to relax. Finally, the healthcare system in Vietnam is not as advanced as in other countries, making it difficult to access quality medical care.
