Help needed!

First post so hi to everyone!

This is our situation, and questions;

Our story so far… myself and my wife are both 44, we are originally from theUK, moved to Canada in 1992, moved back to the UK in 2000 then moved to Floridain 2007, we have come to the realization that we need to plan for our retirement,were also at the point where we also looking for a holiday home so we have decidedthat we can combine both. We have narrowed our search for a holiday home thenretirement location down to two places, obviously Panama and the second is Costa Rica on paper they both meet our requirements we will know more when wevisit.

Were planning on making our first trip to Costa Rica at the end of August then Panama in November, the big question is we don't know where to start looking;we figured that I would post a list of needs and wants and get some advice fromthe people living in the country.

We want to live within an hour or so of a city or big town for the shopping,big box stores, cinema, museums etc. we want to live on the coast but back awayfrom the tourists, say 20 minutes inland but with views of the sea and costline. we don't want to pay million dollar prices for that million dollar view,were not ready yet to buy, perhaps a couple of years that way we have time tofigure out where we want to buy but if we were looking now we would be in the$400-$500k range. The weather must be warm/hot and sunny, we don't mind thehumidity too much as we live in Florida but were hoping the sea breeze willtake some of that away. It would be nice if close by there was golf, tennis andgood restaurants.

Does this sound possible and realistic?

I also have a side question that I'm sure will be answered when we visit but ifanyone has the answer I would be grateful for your input. What are the major differences for retirement between the two countries?
