Costa Rica Border News

An Australian fellow returned today from the border.
They refused to let him enter Panama until he had spent three days in Costa Rica. This was in spite of the fact his visa had not expired, and he had not brought the medication he has to take daily for a heart condition, nor did he have any toiletries or a change of clothing.
He was required to have $500.00 in cash, and I am not sure it was required, but he also showed them his credit cards, and bank passbook.
In addition he had to buy a $2,000.00 airline ticket to Australia. It could not be bought for any other country, and had to be dated to show him leaving in less than six months from this date.
He said he saw many Americans who were being badly treated, including an elderly man, who appeared a bit feeble, and was told to use a computer to buy a plane ticket when he did not have a computer or know where to find one.
I was advised to take absolutely everything required, or that could be required, and then some, when required to go, and expect to have problems anyway.
"Horrible" and "Pandemonium" were words he used to describe the scene at the border.
