Last night, in a real sports festival of baseball, saw the inauguration of the new Kenny Serracín stadium in the province of Chiriqui. At the ceremony were a huge crowd of fanatical baseball lovers.
In the event, which included the participation of the President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, as well as the security forces such as SPI, the Fire Department and the National Police, it was easy to observe the great jubilation that was experienced in the new Coliseum.
The activities started at 5:00 p.m. with artistic performances at the stadium, where artists such as Osvaldo Ayala, Los Rabanes and Joey Montana appeared, as well as the participation of the IPT music band with Arnulfo Arias Madrid. They played the national anthem.
According to the attendance count, more than 8,500 fans were registered who witnessed the opening of the new baseball home in Chiriqui.
The Director of Pandeportes, Mario Pérez, one of the main pillars in the construction of this coliseum, moved to the province to coordinate everything concerning the inauguration.
Before such a high event Pérez made the provison that regardless of the militancy in political parties, he would formally invite the different authorities of the province to be present at this sports party.
The new stadium is a work that has the specifications of Major League Baseball, whose construction cost was 16 million dollars, with 8,500 seats, press area, modern rooms and parking.
The honor of the celebration of the first baseball match in this modern stadium was staged by the novenas of Herrera and Chiriqui, hosts who will later play all five matches in the new stadium. Chiriqui won the ball game. There were many ultra modern electronic lights and gadgets flashing throughout the evening. It was quite a spectacle. There were many displays of fireworks throughout Chiriqui Province last night when the news arrived that Chiriqui had won the game.
