What is it like to retire in Rotorua?

"Life for a retiree in Rotorua, can be quite fulfilling and vibrant. The city is known for its geothermal activity, Maori culture, and beautiful landscapes, offering a variety of recreational activities. Retirees can enjoy leisurely walks around the numerous lakes, parks, and gardens, or engage in more adventurous activities like mountain biking, fishing, or hiking. Rotorua is also rich in cultural attractions. The city is a hub for Maori culture, with several cultural centres, museums, and art galleries that retirees can explore. The Rotorua Museum, Te Puia, and the Buried Village of Te Wairoa are some of the must-visit places that offer insights into the local history and culture. While Rotorua may not have a bustling nightlife like some larger cities, it does offer a range of dining options, including restaurants that serve traditional Maori food. There are also several bars and pubs where retirees can enjoy a relaxed evening. As for the expat community, while not as large as in some other cities, it is quite active. There are several clubs and organizations where expats can meet and socialize. The friendly and welcoming nature of the local Kiwis makes it easy for expats to integrate and feel at home. In terms of healthcare, Rotorua has several medical centres and a hospital that provide quality healthcare services. The city also has a number of retirement villages and aged care facilities, offering a range of living options for retirees. Overall, Rotorua offers a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle for retirees, with a good mix of outdoor activities, cultural experiences, and a welcoming community," remarked one retiree in Rotorua.
