Hi there
I have been living in Abu Dhabi for a year now and we are extremely happy here. I have not hidden my origins and I find people very warm and accepting. I think there is a little too much paranoia at times on the part of the members of our tribe. Life is good.

hi just saw this post,
im currently living in Dubai and working in sharjah for an environment company
i havnt told them that i am jew but the funny thing is my surname is extremely obvious but they havnt figured it out.
to make it more interesting the whole company is arab/palestinian so if they do find out... well i dont know what would happen.
all i know is that if they find out your jewish they would consider a pig better.

these postings are all pretty old. just curious if there are any jews in AD these days? i have been here since jan and have met a total of two. i am not particularly observant, but it would be nice to meet some others of similar background.

Have you ever seen a synogogue in Dubai? I was there in March & could not fiind one & my friend that has lived there for 2 years hasn't either.

I tried to email you but it just bounced. I don't think you will find a jewish company in UAE. Like we are finding out there are a few jews, but a few being the operative word.
My advice to you would be to approach the main person who is appearing to be intolerant and have a real one on one chat. Ask him/her what his/her issue is and see if you can be non- defensive and just hear what he/she has to say. Perhaps then if you just speak your own truth about who you are he/she might understand and it would be a win win situation. I think it's worth a try because you really really want to stay in Dubai.

Hi, I am a jew that is sort of in a bind. I am here for a TV show about young executives, but the word JEW has leaked and now I am feeling true hatred. My seniors look at me like I have a disease and make me feel like I am a killer. Most of my conversations lately are on the defense about being a jew and now they are wondering if I am one of those practicing jews...
I really want to stay in Dubai and work, but I want to work for a company that is seriously open to jews not pretending to be. If anyone has any leads to jewish run companies based in Dubai, can you email me please with their contact information. I really love it here, and want to stay.

I am a Jew casted in a show in Abu Dhabi. I will be mainly in Abu Dhabi and spuratically in Dubai . I really need to connect with a community here, plus I need solid contacts for my show. I am filming an International reality show based on the Apprentice in the UAE. I need to be extremely prepared and by building an alliance will help tremedously especially during an assignment.
Can you please help? Are there any forums for jews?
Wouldnt it be so cool if a Jew ends up winning this competition:)

I've not been on this forum for ages so have only just seen your post. Strictly speaking, it's illegal to live with your partner here if you are not married. If he will be working and hoping to sponsor your visa, that will be a problem. If you will be working and hoping to sponsor his visa, that will be near impossible.
It's also illegal here to have a baby outside of marriage. You will be expected to present a marriage certificate before the baby's birth can be registered and cannot get a passport for the baby without this registration.
I'm not sure what the 'consequences' are for having a baby while not married...maybe someone else here can say?
I had my second baby here in 2007 and the paperwork can be a bit of a nightmare...do-able but it takes a while. I can't imagine trying to get it all sorted without the required documents.

you will have to go through a 3rd country ... a good choice would Jordan ... but
dont get your passport stamped, what i did is i asked for a temp passport, used it for the trip only. u may not be able to get back here if ur passport has an isreali stamp on it.

Am Jordanian who is of palistinian roots and did not live in any since birth. been here for long and had some german and american 'jew' friends.
Simply this is not a subject you should share with public, it may not harm since there is nothing documented about it (I suppose). but i do not think it is show stopper to relocating here.
well ... pregnancy here for single mothers is Illegal, thats it. avoide it. my friend had to fly his GF back home for delivery when she got pregnant.
Sharia'a is not implemented, you can wear act as free as you want as long as u do not violate the 'Public Respect' law which prohipit any physical conact (kissing ...etc) in puclic. -although not strictly followed (Seen some kissers! recently on corniche).
You can wear as free as you like -but expect to be looked at every where u go if u wearing miniskirts ...etc.

hi i was following your conversation on moving in UAE (Abu Dhabi/Dubai) and since i see u have been living there for quite a few years , would like to ask you how are social relations between muslims and jews? i'm afraid my story is a bit unique and therefore a reply might not be so easy..however i'll try to explain. i'm not married but with a doughter, and paradoxically what makes it difficult is that im not a single mother, my doughter has got a father who however is jew.now what adds more problems to it is that although not being israeli, his family has got a house in israel. now, my worries are not legal ones as there's no where featuring that my baby is half jew, but for me to live there, it would mean that she would have to grow up there (attend school and everything) and i'm afraid that she may face racial hostility and not being able to really integrate or have a proper life there. pls advise. serena

Thanks for your reply - I would be arriving there as a single, but hoping to become pregnant soon although not married. I was worried about the legal system there as it relates to an unmarried pregnant lady? Good to know there's no issue about being Jewish. I have a passport without an Israeli stamp on it, so no worries there. Again, many thanks for your reply - puts me more at ease about a big move!

hi monica i am living in abu dhabi uae since 2000 no one asks you about your religion at all. its a very safe very beautifull country on the contrary u will love the place here.
as for having a child without a father if u already hvae a child with the proper documetation every thing is ok he/ she is ur child.
reguarding if u have or will have a boy friend its common for non muslim people like people from europe the far east and so on
as for sharee3a its not applied here 100 % its a very free country

but its better not to say ur religion here to anyone my theory is that religion is a private its a relationship between u and god whether u r a jew a muslim a christain or of anyother religion is a private thing keep this relationship between you and god and every thing will be more than ok although so many christains show crosses in public (jewelry) nicloses all the time

Regilious tolerance is very high in the UAE - there are even synagogues. There are also Israeli Muslims and Palestinian Jews so religion is not an issue. A Israeli stamp in your passport is a problem. To get around it simply "lose" your passport and apply for a new one. A single mom with a child is also a problem - you may have to pose as being divorced to get a visa for the child for the child. I'm not sure whether this would work or not depending on what proof they may want. May I suggest you join the dubai-expats group at yahoo and put the question out there - it is a very active forum
