How did you adjust to the culture? Suggestions & Advice

I just returned from a 10-day trip to Ocho Rios. I had a wonderful visit mostly due to spending a lot of time with my Jamaican friends just outside of Ocho Rios. We're planning to move to JA within the next two years; therefore, I made sure to move beyond the "tourist areas." I started to think about the move and my adjustment to living in Jamaica. I had a hard time at the grocery store: It was stressful because the employees were so rude and customer service was non-existent. I found this to be the case at several restaurants and stores as well. The foreign store owners were so rude and disrespectful to their customers. The Jamaican staff and customers at two local restaurants were plain rude. My Jamaican friend commented several times, out loud, about the service or lack thereof. Just wondering.....how have others adjusted to/dealt with the lack of customer service while shopping in JA?
