Pacific Pirates attack beaches in Cocle

Inhabitants of different beaches in the district of Rio Hato are alarmed by the presence of a group of attackers that have been named “Pirates of the Pacific”.

Offenders arrive in boats to the beaches, are admitted to the villas and residences, where they bind and gag residents and then rob them. They then undertake flight by sea.

Although the police have intensified security operations throughout the area of the beach along with the presence of the Navy base in Aguadulce, several cases have already been registered, and believed that the band is located in the community of Farallon, where an operation has already been mounted to dismantle it and capture its members.

A woman who we'll call Angela (as she asked her real name not be revealed for security reasons), said that there are a group of criminals in Farallon and Rio Hato, who operate in this manner, in the style of pirates. They arrive in boats to hotels, luxurious homes or villas and they assault residents, and once they steal everything they can, they return in their vessels to other villages and therefore the police do not capture them, because they confuse them with the real fishermen who are out in the water.

Yesterday in Buenaventura, representatives of the hotels in the area and security of such personnel met with DIJ agents and police in Cocle and Anton about this matter and to establish how to maintain security measures.

The Executive of the Province of Cocle, Deputy Commissioner Teófilo Moreno, stated that police will identify these areas that have increased risk, and do their best to counteract them.
