Hospital Gun Holdup

Some expat friends of mine in Chorrera in the Columbus neighborhood just e-mailed me, and were at a private clinic Tuesday night, just waiting for their doctor visit, when 3 armed men arrived around 8 o’clock at night (24 hour clinic) and robbed them, and everyone else sitting in the waiting area. They were threatened with guns, along with the doctors and staff, and they broke into the cash register to steal the proceeds. They apparently fled in a waiting car outside the Pan American Hospital Clinic. Police are reviewing video cameras and talking to witnesses. The point being, and I have explained this before to expats, that perhaps leaving your wallets and real valuables in the glove box of your car when going into restaurants and now hospitals, is the best plan. I have a small wallet with minimal amounts of cash and ID that if I lost, would not be traumatic. I see ladies in particular, with their purses, and absolutely every piece of ID and credit cards they own with them, and always, way too much cash. The idea is not to be a target and lose stuff. The police can’t protect you and be everywhere you are. You have to be on alert at all times or you are simply going to lose your stuff………….
