Summary: Moving to San Clemente, Ecuador: Expats, retirees and digital nomads talk about everything you need to know before moving to San Clemente.
What do I need to know before moving to San Clemente?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to San Clemente, they said:
"San Clemente is a small fishing village located on the Pacific coast of Ecuador, known for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle. Before moving to San Clemente, expats should be aware that Spanish is the primary language spoken, so it would be beneficial to learn some basic Spanish phrases. The cost of living in San Clemente is relatively low compared to many Western countries, but it's important to budget for unexpected expenses. The local currency is the US dollar, which makes financial transactions easier for American expats. The climate in San Clemente is tropical, with warm temperatures year-round, but it can get quite humid. It's important to prepare for this type of climate, especially if you're not used to it. Healthcare facilities in San Clemente may not be as advanced as those in larger cities, so expats with specific medical needs should take this into consideration. It's also recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation, in case of serious illness or injury. Public transportation in San Clemente is limited, so many expats choose to buy or rent a car. However, driving in Ecuador can be challenging due to different road conditions and driving habits. San Clemente has a close-knit community, and locals are generally friendly and welcoming to foreigners. However, like any place, it's important to respect local customs and traditions. While San Clemente is generally safe, petty crime can be an issue, so it's important to take basic safety precautions, such as not displaying valuable items in public. Finally, while San Clemente offers a slower pace of life, it may not offer all the amenities and entertainment options of a larger city. Therefore, it's important to consider your lifestyle and what you value most before deciding to move," explained one expat living in San Clemente, Ecuador.
