What is it like to retire in SOPRON?

"Life for a retiree in Sopron, Hungary can be quite fulfilling and enjoyable. The city is known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and serene landscapes, making it an ideal place for those who appreciate culture and nature. There are several cultural attractions in Sopron, including the Firewatch Tower, the Goat Church, and the Storno House, which are all steeped in history and offer a glimpse into the city's past. Sopron is also surrounded by vineyards and forests, providing ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Retirees can enjoy hiking, biking, or simply taking leisurely walks in the beautiful countryside. The city is also close to Lake Neusiedl, where one can engage in water sports or bird watching. While Sopron may not have a bustling nightlife like Budapest, it does have a fair share of cozy cafes, wine bars, and traditional Hungarian restaurants where retirees can enjoy a relaxed evening. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including the VOLT Festival and the Sopron Wine Festival, which offer opportunities for socializing and entertainment. As for the expat community, while it may not be as large as in some other European cities, there is a growing number of foreigners choosing to retire in Sopron due to its lower cost of living, high quality of life, and proximity to Austria. There are also several expat groups and clubs where one can meet and socialize with other expats. Overall, Sopron offers a peaceful and culturally rich retirement with a good balance of recreation and relaxation," said one retiree in living in SOPRON, Hungary.
