Life in Monterrey

I haven't seen any posts about living in Monterrey so thought I'd contribute something.
First, cost: Monterrey is almost certainly the most expensive city in Mexico to live in. It's not just the house prices - it's the cost of utilities too. In summer the temperature is rarely under the 30's and can hit 45C on occasion. In winter the temperature drops low enough to need heating, and our tile-floor draughty houses don't retain the heat.
Secondly, Monterrey is a city of opportunity for those looking for employment. We have a huge industrial sector covering steel, cement, plastics, brewing, etc. and you'll find that almost all major US manufacturers have a headquarters here. Also you'll find the major financial firms such as PWC well represented. Many expats from both the US and the UK work as teachers of various subjects, or even coordinators.
Monterrey is constantly growing and massive new infrastructure development continues apace, with the reinforcement of the Santa Catarina river, new skyscrapers sprouting like mushrooms, the recent creation of the Monterrey Riverwalk, and so on.
Safety: we've been through a rough patch recently with road blockades and all sorts of nastiness, but things seem a lot more settled now. There are of course areas to avoid like in any large city.
To do: Monterrey is blessed with a very wide range of possible activities. There are truly awesome locations to be seen, such as Canyon La Huasteca, a popular spot for climbers and rapelling; Las Grutas del Garcia, a cave complex that rivals Carlsbad; Chipinque, a mountaintop nature reserve great for walkers.
