Considering settling down outside of San Miguel de Allende

Hello! We are researching and learning all we can about this beautiful town and love the climate as it's very much what we're used to in our country now. We just want to give our child the experience of living internationally and enjoying more a melting pot of cultures when you include in all the visitors and expats here. We would like to buy a small acreage and run a little guest inn, preferably and eco inn and have a few questions if you don't mind.
1. How do you find the real estate prices here, say outside of the town proper, compared to other places of comparable quality of life in Mexico. PV was too spendy for us and we are folks that enjoy wide open spaces and not condo living. ;)
2. The crime seemed not to be so much of an issue here. Is what we're reading correct? I love the fact that you can walk and ride bikes here with relative safety, applying common sense, of course.
3. Can you give me specific examples of what a typical market day might cost you for fresh produce, cheeses, tortillas, and maybe milk, staples, etc?
4. We hope to live off grid as much as possible, but what about cell phone and internet costs? I'd love to hear examples.
We are avid researchers and want to count the costs. We will come with savings and will be able to most likely buy a modest place with hopefully a guest cottage to supplement our income with until we get businesses up and running, besides our online business. Thank you so much for taking time to answer.
