Business possibilities in Mexico?

Greetings, amigos :)

I'm interested in business opportunities in Mexico.

Before I go further, perhaps a short "story" on my background (LOL)

I'm a 41-year-old Canadian. I have a steady-paying job as a Software Engineer with Samsung (been working there for 13 years now).

Just 2 years ago, I asked for --- and received --- permission to get out of my office in Toronto, and start working remotely...........which is what I've been doing since 2014. I chose to do this, because I wanted to travel the world, without having to quit my job.

Working remotely means I can pretty much live anywhere on the globe. My income is paid to my account in Canada, and all I need at any point in time is my laptop, and access to the internet.

My main reason for getting out of the office, though, was: I got sick and tired of the cold weather! Haha )) I find myself hating snow and winter. As a result, I am researching the possibility of moving to a warmer climate.

And, for the past couple of years, I have been researching countries in South and Central America. I've been to Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Argentina. I lived in each of these countries for months at a time.

My research was based on only 3 criteria:

(a) access to Internet
(b) basic safety
(c) possibility of starting a local business

I already speak Spanish fluently, so that wasn't a problem.

Based on these 3 criteria, I crossed all the countries off my list (as unsuitable).........except Panama and Mexico.

I am in Panama now (been here since August). So far, Panama seems to meet all my criteria. But before I make a final decision, I want to explore Mexico. I've been to Mexico twice before, but just for vacation. And, of course, a vacation tells one nothing about a country. I want to go there, and live, also for a few months.

Location is irrelevant (as long as it meets my criteria above)

Which brings me to the reason for my post : are there ANY opportunities for starting one's own business in Mexico? In what areas are these opportunities most plausible?

I am not seeking to start anything Software-related. I know enough about Mexico to know that, that is a waste of time. No, any business opportunity.

For example: Panama has quite good opportunities, for anyone interested in

(a) Tourism
(b) Transport
(c) Real-estate

As long as one has enough CAPITAL, to start a business..............

So, does Mexico have anything of the sort?

(You are probably wondering: if I have a well-paying, stable, regular job, which also allows me to work from home, then why do I need a business?? LOL. Well, my answer is simple: I love my job. And, it's a great job. But, at some point, I plan to quit it, and be my own boss)

Gracias
